Cuero Regional Hospital recently hosted its annual Men's Health Golf Tournament at Cuero Municipal Golf Course, bringing together community members, healthcare providers, and local businesses to promote the importance of preventive healthcare for men.
The event welcomed 72 golfers who participated in an 18-hole, four-man scramble tournament focused on raising awareness about men's health issues, including the importance of annual physical exams, prostate cancer screenings, and early detection of disease.
Prior to tee-off, participants were offered free PSA (Prostate- Specific Antigen) screenings, providing an opportunity for men to take an important step toward monitoring their health. Educational materials and health information were also available throughout the course, with health awareness messages featured at each hole.
'Men often delay routine healthcare visits and screenings, which can lead to delayed diagnoses and poorer outcomes,' said Tamara Kainer, Marketing Director and Event Coordinator. 'This event allows us to engage men in a comfortable setting while reinforcing the importance of annual physicals, cancer screenings, and preventive care.'
The tournament was made possible through the generous support of numerous community sponsors and partners. Cuero Regional Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to Main Event Sponsor: Gulf Coast Rehab / Excel Sports Therapy, GVEC, Cuero Health Clinics, City of Cuero, DeTar Healthcare System, Robins & Morton, Kelley Ranch – Stanley and Debbie Kelley and Jacobs Real Estate GVEC provided bottled water for participants, while Cuero Health Clinics donated Gatorade to help golfers stay hydrated throughout the day.
The tournament featured competitive play and concluded with awards presentations. Due to outstanding performances on the course, first place resulted in a three-way tie among the teams led by Brandon Cowey, Jason Smetters, and Omar Cordova. Fourth place also resulted in a tie between the teams led by Ryan Kainer and Harold Dworaczyk. Special recognition was awarded to the Closest to the Pin winners on Hole #3 Marc Savard and Bubby John Matejek.
Cuero Regional Hospital would like to thank all golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and community partners who contributed to the success of the event.
