Dorothy Marie Humphrey, 94, left this earth on June 28, 2024. She was born November 29, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Robert and Alma Read. Dorothy spent most of her young life in Dayton, Ohio which she always considered home. It was there in grade school that she met the love of her life Robert S. Humphrey (Bob) and married him September 1, 1951 and they were married for 70 years. She and Bob had 3 children together and she loved being a mother and having a family. They lived in New Baltimore, Michigan, Bermuda and the Azores Portugal during Robert’s years in the United States Air Force and Civil Service. They moved back to Dayton when Bob retired from USAF and then moved to Nordheim, Texas. Dorothy lived in Corpus Christi, Texas and Hot Springs, Arkansas after the passing of her husband. She traveled the world with her husband and family and made many life long friends in each place she lived.
Dorothy was creative and wrote poetry, entertained her children by drawing, painting, sewing, crocheting and doing many crafts. She was a volunteer, did charity work and active in her church.
Dorothy is survived by her children, daughter, Cathy Humphrey, son Robert S. Humphrey II (Rebecca) and daughter Donna Waller (Gregory), also 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alma Read, her sisters Betty Louise Coker and Mary Jane Dyer and her beloved husband, Robert Humphrey.
Dorothy’s ashes will be laid to rest beside those of her husband Robert’s in a joint ceremony in Dayton, Ohio where they first met as children on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 10 am at Dayton Memorial Cemetery 8135 North Dixie Drive Dayton, OH. We will gather at the entrance bridge at 9:45 am and a guide will lead us to the site. Going home together where it all started.
