The Bruni Badgers are 0-3 after the first three weeks of the football season losing to LaPryor (34-0), Santa Maria (42-0), and Freer (54-0). Last season they were 5-6 and went 2-1 in district play. They are returning six offensive and seven defensive players from their bi-district qualifying team.

This year they are in a five team district and are predicted to come in fifth behind LaVilla, Agua Dulce, Ben Bolt, and Woodsboro. The biggest hurdle the Badgers face is offensive scoring. They have not found the endzone in three games. Defensively, the Badgers have allowed big numbers with their opponents averaging 43.3 points per game.

“The Badgers will be experienced up front led by DL TomasHernandez (75 tackles and 6 sacks), OL Crispin Castillo,” according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine. Jaden Guardian will look to play the new role of quarterback after playing receiver previously in 2023.

The head to head matchup has a series 4-1 record with Yorktown ahead. They played four years straight starting in 2014 and even twice in 2015 when they met up in the playoffs. In 2014 the Wildcats prevailed 15-14 and again in 2015 with a score of 14-12. The Badgers nabbed their one win in 2015 defeating the Wildcats in the playoffs, 40-34. The Wildcats grabbed two more wins in 2016 (28-7), and in 2017 (28-8).

The Wildcats have rushed for a total of 1,014 yards while totaling 92 receiving yards. The Wildcats top receiver is Matthew Olguin with 7 receptions for 57 yards, averaging 8.1 yards per catch. A key running back for the team is freshman McKenzie Yanta that has accumulated 239 yards in 32 carries. Quarterback Metting has completed 14 throws out of 34 attempts for 92 yards, while carrying the ball 65 times for 685 yards.

Defensively, Adam Serbin leads the team in tackles averaging nine per game. Olguin has recorded two interceptions, and Rylan Rau and Richard Flores have both tallied two sacks.

The Wildcats will look to utilize their ground game to nab the win against the Badgers.
