Pancake practice makes perfect for new Turkeyfest event

Hello All, Busy month of September: the Council approved the Fiscal year 2025 City budget, and the first heat of the Great Gobbler Gallop was run at King Turkey Days in Worthington Minnesota. Ruby has a 30 second lead coming into heat 2 on October 12, at Turkeyfest. As the saying goes “It ain’t over till October.” The Ruby free pancake breakfast is slated for Saturday September 28 at 8:30 am. Pancakes will be served in the walkway in downtown Cuero, first come, first serve. This event will be a trial run for the main event in October, right before the parade on Saturday morning October 12. Same place, same time.

I attended two football related events recently at Cuero High School. On September 12th I did an inspirational speech to the Varsity football team during the Champions speech and on September 20th, I read a “Gobbler Golden Anniversary honoring the 1974 Gobbler Championship team” proclamation at the teams 50th year reunion. It was an honor to recognize the team members, coaches, faculty and family who attended the reunion. I told the group the 1972, 73 and 74 teams set the precedent to the current winning and recognized Gobbler Football program. They inspired many players to attend and represent Cuero in College Football and the NFL: Arthur Wittington (SMU and Super Bowl Champion Oakland Raiders), Brad Goebel (Philadelphia Eagles), Alios Blackwell (Dallas Cowboys), Derrick Mathis (Indianapolis Colts), Cody Wallace (Pittsburgh Steelers), Henry Sheppard (Cleveland Browns) to name a few. Currently Jordon Whittington is playing for the LA Rams (thank you Quincy and Helen). I pray the Good Lord protects Jordan and leads him to success. On the College arena, Councilman and current Gobbler Coach, Adam Arroyo played for the Baylor Bears; Robert Strait, Trooper Taylor now at Texas A&M on the coaching staff was also a college stand out; Clint Finley, I know I missed many more, however they have all made Cuero Proud!!

I have delivered the applications to the Mayors Youth Council to Cuero High School. The MYC is open to current Juniors and Seniors. If you know of a Junior or Senior who is interested in the program, please encourage them to submit an application. The deadline is September 27.
