Democratic Women’s Meetings

 The DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women will hold its October meeting on Friday Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maya’s restaurant in Cuero. All are invited. The group will also sponsor its second Get Out the Vote postcard writing workshop on Sunday on October 6 at 1 p.m., also at Maya’s. All are invited. Fall Clean Sweep

Keep Cuero Beautiful encourage Cuero citizens to organize teams and enter the KTB/KCB Fall Clean Sweep Saturday, Oct 5 to clean up litter from Cuero neighborhoods. Teams and individuals will meet at 8:30 AM at the Downtown market Pavilion adjacent to the Cuero Public Library, 207 E Main, for light breakfast, neighborhood assignments for cleanup, and supplies. By 11 AM teams will meet at the Cuero Recycling Center on E Broadway to weigh their collections. The top 3 teams in weight of litter cleaned up will earn $100/each to pay forward to the team’s favorite non-profit organization.

Church Garage Sale 

St. Michael’s Catholic Daughters Court #347 will be having a Garage Sale on Friday, Oct. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to noon at St. Michael’s Parish Hall, 309 Church St., Cuero. There will also be a raffle that will be drawn on Saturday. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased on the day or from any Catholic Daughter member or at the church office. A country store will be included. Any donations for the sale may be brought to the Parish Hall from Tuesday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Fall Rifle Shoot

The Cuero Sportsmen’s Club will be holding a Fall .22 Rifle Shoot on Saturday, Oct. 5, Registration will be from 8-9 a.m. with shooting beginning at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $25 with an optional pot available. The club is locat- ed at 906 E. Bailey in the far northeast of Cuero. Contests will consist of 10 targets at each of 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards. Other than the entry fee, shooters will only need a rifle in .22 long rifle caliber, a box of bullets and hearing/ eye protection.

Blessing of Animals 

Bring you pets and join us for a short, informal service for Cuero’s annual Blessing of the Animals, Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m. in the “Chapel Without Walls,” located at the corner of Courhouse & Clinton streets, across from the DeWitt County Courthouse. Sponsored by Grace Episcopal, First United Methodist, First Presbyterian and Saint Mark’s Lutheran churches.

GOP Ribbon Cutting

Turkeyfest Carnival

This year Cuero Turkeyfest and Marriam Midway will be selling presale wristband coupons for $20 each. You will be redeemed the coupon at the midway ticket booth for one wristband to use for one session per coupon. Wristband times are as followed: Thursday: 6-10; Friday: 6-11; Saturday: Noon-5 or 6-11; Sunday: 1-7. You may purchase your coupon from Cuero Chamber of Commerce, Cuero Lube and Tire, or a Cuero Turkeyfest Board Member. The last day to purchase presale tickets will be Wednesday, October 9.

Turkey Trot 5K

3rd Annual Gospel Fest 

Join us Saturday October 12, 2024 for the Tri-City Empowerment 3rd Annual Gospel Fest at the Friar Ag Center here in Cuero. The event will be from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Featured guests include Christopher D. Spivey & Company, a dynamic group of singers from the Austin, as well as Psalmist, Worship Pastor, Recording Artist and Producer, Chester D. T. Baldwin. Come and lift your voice with us in a celebration of worship hosted by Tri-City Empowerment Council sponsored by the City of Cuero Hot Funds.

Drive Thru Flu Vaccine 

We will be hosting our annual Drive Thru Flu Vaccine event on Tuesday, October 15th.

Patients can drive thru the main front entrance of the hospital to receive their vaccine. We just need insurance cards for those with insurance, and for cash paying patients the price is $35 for the regular Flu Vaccine, and $75 for the High Dose Flu Vaccine. Blood Drive Appointments

Cuero Regional Hospital will be hosting a blood drive for the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center in the Education Classroom on Thursday, October 17th, from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. Anyone who is 16 years old weighing 120 pounds (with parental consent form), or at least 17 years old weighing 110 pounds, and in good general health can donate blood. St. Michael's Catholic School Fall Festival 

Join us on Sunday, Oct. 27th, for St. Michael's Catholic School's Fall Festival in Cuero, TX. Cuero VFW sponsored essay contests of Patriot’s Pen: My Voice in American Democracy and Voice of Democracy: Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision? Veteran’s Day Chicken BBQ

The American Legion Dinter Post 3 is hosting a Veteran’s Day Chicken BBQ on Saturday, Nov. 9. The proceeds will go to help area veterans in need and for Post home improvements. The BBQ will be held at the American Legion Hall, 310 S. Esplanade with chicken pickup times from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the DeWitt County Coop and Ander’s Auto Supply in Downtown Cuero. We are asking for $15 donation for each BBQ chicken.

EMS 35 Year Celebration

Yorktown EMS is proud to be celebrating 35 years of serving our community and surrounding areas. To celebrate this honor, plans are underway for a Family Fun Filled Day on Saturday, November 9, starting at 4 p.m. at Yorktown Community Hall. Activities of the day include a bounce house for the kids, putt putt golf, a cornhole tournament, silent auction, and BBQ plates. Then DANCE the night away with Chris Gonzales and The Rekkers from 7-11 p.m. Yorktown EMS is a non-profit organization and without the support of our community this would not be possible. Annual Turkey Shoot 

The Cuero Rotary Club is excited to announce its annual Turkey Shoot, taking place on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Cuero Sportsman Club, located at 902 E. Bailey St., Cuero, TX. This community event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their marksmanship in 16 thrilling shooting rounds, competing for a variety of prizes and cash rewards.

Senior Coffee Hour & Social

Cuero VFW Post 3972 has resumed weekly games of Bingo at the Post Home.
