NORDHEIM NEWS

GOD first....Heavenly Father, You know that we are always looking in the wrong directions when we search for ways to improve our lives and happiness without first considering You are always there to listen. When all else fails, one needs to only ask.

GOD first....Heavenly Father, You know that we are always looking in the wrong directions when we search for ways to improve our lives and happiness without first considering You are always there to listen. When all else fails, one needs to only ask. For we know in our hearts those who are ill, suffering, grieving or are in harm's way.

**Otto had looked over the job list and went for an interview that was posted by a manager of a tire store for a sales job. The manager, Bob, looked over Otto's resume carefully and noticed that Otto had never worked in sales before.

Bob said to Otto, 'What nerve, if you don't mind me asking. For somebody without any sales experience, you are certainly wanting a high salary. Why?'

'Well I guess I am,' Otto said. 'But you have to understand that the work is so much harder when you don't know what you're doing.'

The Nordheim Volunteer Fire Department, this past week was on the ball, when it had to go to a fire south of town. Four of Nordheim's finest answered the call and all four were women well qualified to do their job. By the time the men arrived, the firefighting trucks were in place and ready to go. The fire was in the back of the Tores Place next to the Arnald Metting place. It was started by a bailer and after that, it consumed the hay rake too as well as some of the hay. The tractor's driver alertly disconnected it before the fire got too big, saving it. The firemen stayed until dark to monitor any outbreak as a precautionary measure.

TheNordheimVolunteer Fire Department is having a fundraiser this next Sunday on October 13 starting at 11 a.m. at the New Fire Station on Broadway. The Department will be serving BBQ Chicken with all the trimmings and will be sold only by presale tickets being sold by members of the firemen and fireladies department. All plates will be to go only at $15 each. To order tickets by phone call: Betty Sthling @ 361-5502612 or Ronnie Pfeifer @ 361-563-2644. Meals can be picked up as drive thru inside the fire station.

According to the State Highway Department, while demolishing the old bridge across the Smith Creek between Nordheim and Yorktown, they discovered another bridge under the old one. It resembled a low water crossing for normal flow of the creek when the flooding subsided after a rain. It probably resembled the low water crossing that is now downstream from it that has been closed because it has a large hole in the middle of it and hasn't been repaired, closing that road for over a year or two now.

It may be interesting to note that when it rained a lot, Nordheim was stranded for the duration because both the Cabeza and Smith creeks were unpassable until the flood waters subsided. During that time, the only connection with the outside world was to holler across the creek to someone or by telephone when it was working. Those in Nordheim had to drink beer and eat sauerkraut and complain about the weather until the sun came out and dried the roads. When the railroad came and the new bridge on Highway 72 was built, it was a new beginning for our town.

As the new four lane highway around Nordheim is progressing, it will not be long if the weather holds. The new sewer line is reaching North Street/Cabeza rd. and should be finished about that time too with lots of work remaining. All we need right now is a good rain. See you next week.
