At halftime of the Yorktown versus Pettus game, the 2024 homecoming court was announced. Freshman Duchess Taylor Gips was escorted by Randen Zuniga, Sophomore Duchess Alondra Davila was escorted by Lupe Joe Rios Jr., and Junior Duchess Serenity Rodriguez was escorted by Colton Rogers.
The highlight was the announcing of the homecoming queen. Laynie Boyd escorted by Rylan Rau was crowned the 2024 Homecoming Queen. Other senior representatives were Braleigh Dodds escorted by Samuel Forbes and Madalyn Rowlands escorted by Richard Flores.
Boyd is a member of the Presbyterian Church. She has served as junior class treasurer, and is currently serving as senior class secretary. Boyd was elected president of the Yorktown National Honor Society this past year and participated on the varsity basketball and track team all four years. She has served in the leadership roles of president and vice president for Future Farmers of America and has been a member of Yorktown 4H. She participates in UIL academics in particular Prose Interpretation and Spelling. She also helps capture experiences while serving on the Yorktown Yearbook Committee.
Boyd’s hobbies include spending time with family and friends. She has a passion for showing cattle, and sewing with her grandma where she creates meaningful memories. Boyd also enjoys doing outdoor activities such as hunting or fishing.
This year Boyd’s goals are to maintain a high GPA while excelling at basketball. She plans to work hard during basketball season in hopes of being recognized as the Defensive MVP. Boyd is focused on motivating and leading the basketball team to start a new playoff trend, while staying healthy and able to advance to regionals in track. Boyd also looks forward to getting a brand with her steers at a major show, as it will be her last time in the ring.
Her future plans include attending Texas A&M University where she aspires to major in Hospitality, Recreation, Tourism, and Event Planning. She hopes to develop a comprehensive understanding of event management, customer service, and sustainable tourism practices.
Her mother has been the most significant influence in Boyd's life for countless reasons, shaping her into the person that she is today. She instilled values of hard work, determination, and kindness. Her mothers volunteer work within the community demonstrates the importance of giving back, which has inspired Boyd to be more service- oriented and mindful of the needs of those around her. Boyd strives to be the person she is because of the positive influence her mother has made in her life.
