The 66th Annual Western Days Festival, scheduled from Friday, Oct. 18, to Sunday, Oct. 20, in Yorktown showcases small-town culture with events like a pig scramble and corn hole tournament. But there’s also free wall-to-wall music along with Oletime Gunfighters. And, of course, a carnival.
Western Days traces its origins back to the 1950s and continues to embody the spirit of community and family enjoyment that has defined it over the decades.
New this year is a Kiddie Parade on Friday evening with the theme of “ A Night at the Movies.” Free live music kicks off with Chris Gonzales and The Rekkers and headliners Nick Russell & the Twisted X’s close out the evening.
Presale carnival tickets offer $5 day-band discounts and can be purchased until noon Thursday at all banks in Yorktown, Yorktown City Hall, and the Western Days office.
On Saturday the annual Grand Parade, where community spirit shines, commences down Main Street at 10:30 a.m. At noon the food and beer vendors open along with the Tractor Show, Quilt Show, Goliad Forge and Petting Zoo. Watch out for the Ole Time Gunfighters battling it out throughout the day. In the afternoon there are stick horse, mutton bustin, pig scramble, cornhole and bull-riding competitions.
Saturday night music promises a diverse lineup of entertainment, starting with Joel Nava at 4:30, Carson Jeffrey at 7 p.m, Jon Wolfe at 9 p.m. and Giovannie & the Hired Guns at 11 p.m.
The family fun continues on Sunday with a Car Show, a Children’s Tractor Pull, and a Children’s Cook Off. Live music starts at noon and a live auction and raffle begin at 5 p.m. after the top cook-off Triple Crown Award is given.
