Friday, Oct. 11 the Kitty Kats ended the first round of district play. Yorktown defeated Pettus is three quick sets, bringing their district record to 3-1.
In district standings, Yorktown is in position two behind undefeated Falls City. Kenedy 2-2 sits in third, while Pettus 1-3 is in fourth place, and Bloomington 0-4 rounds out the district.
The Kitty Kats won in dominating fashion against the Eagles especially in the third set, 25-13, 25-20, and 25-7. “I’m very proud of the girls as we have been practicing hard as well at competing in practice with each other so that it can transfer into game play,” commented head coach Ashtyn Henkes.
Yorktown looks to try and tie up the district standings by overtaking the Falls City Beaverettes on Tuesday, Oct 15. The Kitty Kats will have home court advantage and are hoping to utilize it to their benefit. ”We hope to pack the stands on Tuesday as Falls City comes to town to begin the second half of District play and force a tie-breaker for a District Championship. We know it will not be easy, but we plan to prepare and go and compete for our home crowd,” stated Henkes.
The Kitty Kats closed out the first half of district with a three game win streak, almost guaranteeing a spot in the playoffs. Yorktown is in position to challenge for first with a win on Tuesday.
