NORDHEIM NEWS

GOD first...Heavenly Father, You know our fears and anxieties better than we do. We stir so many 'what ifs' in our minds that it almost drives us crazy. Father, we ask for strength to quell all of our 'what ifs' and place in our hearts the knowledge that You alone will carry us to greater things through Your Amazing Grace and calm all our bad thoughts as we ask in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Pray for those who are grieving, ill, suffering, or are in harm's way.

**Otto called the librarian at home in the middle of the night. 'What time of the morning does the library open?' he asked.

'Nine a.m.' she replied. 'What's the idea of calling me at home in the middle of the night to ask a question like that. What is so important you want to get in before 9 a. m.?

'Not until 9 a.m. ?' Otto asked in disappointment.

'No, not until 9 a.m.!' the librarian replied. 'Tell me why you want to get in before 9 a.m., please.'

'Who said I want to get in?' Otto said. ' I want to get out!'

In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, several Nordheim Volunteer Firefighters arrived at the Nordheim school to educate the students on fire prevention. The students were greeted upon arrival by firefighters Tracy Gunderland and Marsha Knight, dressed in full firefighting gear. Later that morning, Tracy and Brandon Nunez gave students in grades Pre-K thru 5th grades, a tour of the Engine #1. They tried on the heavy coat and tried to lift the oxygen tank. All the hoses and nozzles were explained along with other equipment.

They even got to sit in the captain's seat. Derrick Green, Fire Chief of NVFD, Mike Petru and Anthony Villa from the Beeville Task Force, then showed them how the fires were fought using the tanker truck. Also on display was a very large bulldozer.

Bettie Stehling held a poster contest for the students. Winners were then awarded $15 for first place, $10 for 2nd place and $5 for 3rd place, sponsored by the NVFD.
