Friday, Oct 11 the Wildcats hosted the Pettus Eagles for their homecoming matchup. Two fumbles and an interception kept the Eagles in the game early on, but the Wildcats amassed a hefty lead by halftime, 42-19.
During the halftime homecoming performance Laynie Boyd escorted by Rylan Rau was crowned queen.
After the first period the Yorktown squad led, 14-7. Brody Metting scored off a one yard run and two yard run, after the Eagles had scored on an 18 yard fumble return. Next Pettus executed off of an interception. Taking the ball over on their own 30 yard line the Eagles scored with 11:19 remaining in the second quarter but the kick failed, 14-13. Late in the second the Wildcats scored when Brody Metting connected with Mathew Olguin, 21-13.
The Wildcat defense went to work. Daylon Meyer intercepted the ball and had a 60 yard return with 2:46 remaining, 27-13. Brayden Knostman recovered a fumble on the 40 yard line when a Pettus player fumbled during kickoff return.
Olguin was scurrying down the field when the ball came loose and Richard Flores recovered the fumble in mid-air before being brought down. In the final minutes of the half, Metting ran in and Sullivan tacked on another extra point, 35-13.
Pettus returned the kickoff 75 yards, 3519. Adam Serbin’s tackle prevented the two point conversion for the Eagles. With 1;11 remaining the Wildcats pieced together their final drive of the half, ending McKenzie Yanta pushed into the endzone from the one yard line with 10 seconds left on the clock.
In the second half, Yanta would rush for two more touchdowns from the one yard line and two yard line, respectively. Garrett Menn put the final points on the board when he jetted 18 yards into the endzone, 63-19. Sullivan tacked on a total of eight extra points for the Yorktown squad.
Total stat highlights include Metting 5 completions out of 9 attempts for 65 total passing yards, 1 interception, 1 passing touchdown, 22 carries for 179 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Yanta 20 carries for 124 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Olguin 3 catches for 49 receiving yards and 1 touchdown.
