GOD first...Heavenly Father, the gifts of blessings are countless things we receive each day without having to ask for them. You hear our concerns as well as our thankfulness each time we pray. As we pray for special needs of those around us, we only ask for strength and faith and use our abilities to help do whatever we can as we go forth in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Pray for those who are ill, suffering, grieving, or are in harm’s way.
**Mrs. Nitwit was going out for the day. She locked the house and tacked a note for the milkman on the door: 'NOBODY HOME. DON'T LEAVE ANYTHING.'
When she got back that night, she found her door broken open and her house ransacked. On the note she had left, she found the following message added: 'THANKS! WE HAVEN'T LEFT MUCH.'
Getting a little old and senile, after getting the phone number to Lile's Country Store here in Nordheim, I reversed the last two numbers of the phone number. It wasn't a mistake or error. It was a misreading of the right number. It is 361-938-5469. Alberta has been forwarding the callers to the right number I just listed.
'Lile's' name is wrong too. It's not Lillie's, as in Spanish the two lls are pronounced as y. Making a right to a wrong. That's my Spanish lesson for today.
Lile's Country Store has a lot more to offer and an addition of bananas, milk, bread, washing soap, and all the things you need and expect a country store to have. She even has breakfast cereal, tables and chairs, and all sorts of items that one might need in a hurry. If you have a special reasonable request for an item, she will get it for you and call you when she gets it. That way, she might even deliver it to your home.
At our Family Reunion last week, each one of brothers and sisters were given questions of what we did when we were growing up. These questions were mailed to us ahead of time. I woke up this morning remembering all sorts of things we didn't say. For instance: both of our grandmas had a victrola that you had to crank up to get it to the right speed. All the records they had was made of a hard vinal with groves that when a record player head with a needle was placed into the start of the groves, as the turn table was moving, there was a sound produced. The turn table had different speeds and when a slow playing record was sped up, it sounded like Donal Duck. Us kids had a lot of fun with that until we were caught. Most kids don't know what a victrola is or even seen or heard one.
Putting a penny on a railroad track and watching a train go by. At school, we had a show and tell time. Sneaking close to our elders telling off color jokes without them knowing we could hear. Tying two cats’ tails together and hanging them over a close line. One of my uncles did that. Another uncle caught a rooster and poured whiskey down it's beak. Funniest thing I ever saw especially when it tried to crow. A young kid with pent up ambition is hard to top when he has idle time.
At Koffee Klatch, our forgotten memories are gifts given to us by our Father in Heaven. A lot of us had nothing else to do on the Fourth of July but go drink coffee and gnash on the goodies brought. We still had fun. See you next week. Wrote this early Sunday Morning. Didn't know if our electricity would be cut off due to the storm.
