Retired school personnel hear from Louderback

“Passion about” and “committed to” are the words of former Sheriff A. J. Louderback used to describe how he intends to approach public education in Texas when he addressed the DeWitt County Retired School Personnel at their October meeting. The meeting was held at the Cuero Municipal Library. Mr. Louderback believes that children are our most important asset and educating them ensures more productive citizens in the future. He knows first hand about the role of public education because his mother was a teacher. While he understands that the legislature needs to address many issues in Texas, he says public education is among the most important, if not the most important item. Louderback has faith in the schools within his district and stated that he tries to keep in contact with superintendents. He said that parental participation in the educational process has been represented well through the process of electing school boards. Mr. Louderback pledged to work for a strong public education system in Texas, for appropriate educational funding in Texas including professional salaries for teachers, and for more efficient and productive methods of running the schools.

Also on hand at the meeting was Kaitlyn Meitzen, librarian at the Cuero Municipal Library, to describe some of the innovative programs adopted by the Library, all aimed at enhancing reading activities for all ages. She is constantly seeking programs that are resourceful and visionary.

President Sandra Tate called the business meeting to order. Secretary Joyce Warwas read the minutes from the last meeting, and Treasurer Judy Faulkner gave a financial report that revealed the in house auction held in September had added funds to the DWCRSP’s scholarship account. Tate reviewed plans to attend the fall convention in Bay City.
