Tuesday, Oct 15 the Kitty Kats hosted the Falls City Beaverettes for the start of the second round of district play and senior night. The seniors for the team include: Brilye Campbell, Braleigh Dodds, Audrena Hernandez, Sydnie Krueger, Madalyn Rowlands, Malayshia Thomas, and Nina Villarreal.
Falls City was sitting in first place after going undefeated throughout the first half of district. The Kitty Kats were one win behind, therefore nabbing a victory could tie up the first place district standings.
Yorktown packed the house offering free admission to any fan willing to dress in black. The crowd was not disappointed as the Kitty Kats won the match in three sets, 25-18, 25-20, 27-25. The close last set was won with Bryile Campbell at the service line. The Beaverettes returned the serve but Syndie Krueger scored game point with a hit from the right side off of a high pass from libero Nina Villarreal.
“We watched film and prepared in practice on what would be our game plan coming into Falls City,” Head Coach Ashtyn Henkes said. “Transition defense to offense has been a huge focus for us, so between the girls executing that and the atmosphere our fans created, it made for a great evening.”
The Kitty Kats are 4-1 in district. The remaining of the team’s district games are out of town, however fans can still catch the team in action at home in a non-district match set against Austwell Tivoli for Friday, Oct 25.
“I’m proud of the girls tonight, and now we have to look forward to finishing district on a strong note moving into the playoffs,” Henkes said.
