In their third district game, Yorktown plays the Louise Hornets Friday at home.

The Louise Hornets opened up district with a 48-7 loss to the Falls City Beavers. Last week their game against the Pettus Eagles ended in a 4124 win. In preseason the Hornets were able to nab wins against Bloomington and Woodsboro 8-6 and 35-28, respectively. They fell short to Sacred Heart, St. Paul, and Flatonia.

The series between the Wildcats and Hornets has occurred ten times with Yorktown victorious 70% of the time. The biggest win came in 2022 with a 55-0 shutout dealt by the Wildcats. The most recent matchup was 2023 in which the Hornets were able to break Yorktown’s four year win streak in a close battle, 33-22.

Louise ranks high in passing stats for the district but those stats can seem inflated since the two perennial powerhouses Falls City and Shiner both garner most of their yards on the ground. Conner Gonzales and Weston Howard both rank first in passing and receiving yards, respectively. Through their first six games, Louise has had 35 completions out of 82 attempts for a total of 457 yards, therefore averaging 76.2 passing yards per game. They have been able to grab five passing touchdowns.

But Wildcats will look to exploit their inaccuracy as the Hornets have already tallied a high 10 interceptions for the year. The team stats also include 197 carries for 612 total rushing yards, which brings the Hornets to an average 102 rushing yards per game. Securing the football has also proven difficult for the Hornets as they have accumulated a total seven fumbles.

Defensively Lake Wadsworth is ranked 12th in Region 2A Division 2 in tackles with 69 total tackles and first in the district.

Last week against Charlotte, the Wildcat key players included Kason Sullivan who went 8/8 in kicking extra points. Brody Metting rushed 10 times for 140 yards and McKenzie Yanta rushed 7 times for 130 yards tallying 3 and 2 touchdowns, respectively. Brayden Knostman started the Wildcats off with their first touchdown and ended the night with their final touchdown. Knostman had a 60 yard interception return and a long 55 yard run for his second touchdown. Mathew Olguin had a 68 yard punt return to score for the Wildcats.

Yorktown has been averaging 47.8 passing yards and 332.8 rushing yards per game. In comparison, Yorktown averages 380.6 total yards of offense per game to Louise’s 178.2, therefore it appears that the Wildcats will be in position to send the Louise Hornets home with a heavy loss.
