Cuero High School teachers got hands-on training last Wednesday in a 3D learning program that will likely become a standard learning tool in education.
A representative from zSpace AR/VR Learning Experiences joined the CHS teachers via Zoom to review the 3D apps and education tools available through the program. Teachers from science, English, Spanish, art, social studies, and physics attended training on the zSpace program.
The CHS Library has four workstations set up with 3D hardware and software for students to use in lessons. However, items can be researched on the zSpace program on regular computers as well.
Students can work alone or in pairs at the workstations on assignments, such as fixing a burnt out motor. With the 3D pen, they can pull out the engine and troubleshoot the repair, while also consulting the schematics.
In essence, students get to practice manipulating physical objects, such as dissecting a frog, before actually doing it. Not only are there applications in science and technology, but also in mathematics, social studies and languages.
“We have a phenomenal trench warfare app,” said the Zspace instructor, referring to soldiers’ experiences in WWI.
CHS teachers will continue meeting for PLC series after school on Wednesdays through November. They will be focusing on improving student achievement through discussion of Ruby Payne’s book “Emotional Poverty in All Demographics.”
