Happy 90th Mr. Pargmann! ‘Good for another 1,000 miles’

GOD first....Heavenly Father, we give thanks for all the blessings that you have given us. In all gratefulness, we search within our hearts looking for forgiveness, for our bodies are slaves to sin and cannot escape. Protect the Spirit within us all which sin cannot destroy. We ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Some interesting facts that have eluded us in finding about the City Park: In 1940, barbecue pits, tables, and benches were constructed. In 1946, swings and lights were put in place. In 1947, the push and pull merry-go-round was placed. In 1956, a 20 X 30 building was constructed. In 1968, a 20 X 20 addition was added to the building, All this was searched out by Mayor Kathy. Yes, Bruce, she is still our mayor. We keep her chained to her desk and only release her so she can come to Kaffee Klatch each Thursday.

The Nordheim Booster Club hosted a Fall Festival last October 26th with a 5k Run sponsored by the Nordheim Senior Class. There were games with lots of fun at the Nordheim ISD Cafeteria and people came from town and surrounding areas with lots of support in helping adults and kids celebrate physical fitness. A raffle drawing was held as a means of supporting teachers and students with extra material for teaching & learning.

To some Nord- heimers, progress of the Hwy 72 expansion is slow yet some think it is on schedule. Either way, black topping will have reached Nordheim from the east by next week. Black topping from the west is finished from the county line to past Cabeza Creek Bridge. All entrances to the highway will need to be finished too. Everybody is patiently waiting.

I went to my doctor for a semi-annual checkup on the 15th. He looked over my blood work and said it looked great. Took me off of two pills I was taking and asked me what I was doing that made this checkup better. Told him I was doing exercises three times a week. He wished most of his patients would also exercise like that. Told me I was good for another thousand miles...

My sister, Wilma, asked me to ride with her and Bob in the Western Days Parade in their Model A Ford so Saturday morning, I went to Yorktown. While there, my daughter Roberta, called me and asked me where I was as she had been looking for me. Told me I was supposed to be in Nordheim for a big surprise for my birthday. Gave the phone to Wilma and said, 'You talk to her.' They both then decided I needed to go to Nordheim. Becoming 90 years of age, I get treated like a little child. The big surprise was finding that my cousin Carol Pohl had come from San Francisco, California, along with her niece and family, to be at my birthday celebration at the Shooting Hall on Sunday. I never thought that she would be there since she told me in previous conversations that she wasn't able to travel. We had lots to talk about.

Went to church on Sunday morning and then to the Hall and started meeting invited guests as they arrived and meeting so many people I haven't seen in a very long time. Most were kin, some I had worked with, and some expected to see an old man sitting or unable to stand. Before the noon meal, there was a short ceremony introducing our own family and my cousin Carol. Carol was someone a lot of our kin had never seen. It was wonderful to see her response to the many who she recognized. It was a blessing I will remember the rest of my days. I am grateful for all the many friends who came and helped me celebrate. During and after the meal, I went around and talked to all the people I could. There were about 200 of them. Thank you all for coming and may God bless each and everyone. He does wonderful wonders.

On Monday, I went to the Rec Center in Cuero, to exercise and get the kinks out.

On Tuesday, my daughter and I went to San Marcos to attend the Past Presidents Luncheon sponsored by Senior General Counsel Jim Allison, who does this for all the past presidents every year at the State of Texas County Judges & Commissioners Association. There were over 300 judges and commissioners present to hear information of what the State Legislature might be proposing next year through bills that will be filed. (about 8,000 bills) Some good and some bad for counties and its citizens. I was grateful to see all my past friends again. I was President in 2006.

While driving to San Marcos, (Yes, I still drive) I saw so many changes and the invasion of progress all along the way since I hadn't been that way in years.

When asked how it feels to be 90 years old, I feel blessed. So many cherished memories that still linger in my mind. Even though I can't smell or hear too good, life is great. It is beyond great. See you next week.
