DeWitt County boasts both American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars posts throughout the communities of the county. Offering services to veterans as well as serving the community through scholarships, donations and sponsorships, these organizations highlight serving others.

In Cuero, there is American Legion Dinter Post #3 and VFW Post 3972. Yorktown has VFW Post 8136 while Yoakum has AL Post #395. Westhoff has AL Mueller Schaffner Post #369 and Nordheim has AL Post #0272.

Through various activities, the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of American Legion and members of the VFW provide support to veterans/spouses, home bound and those in nursing homes.

“We include local school children with placement of flags on grave sites at Westhoff cemeteries to remember those who have served out country,” said Terri Boothe, American Legion Auxiliary, Westhoff.

From weddings to birthday parties, many of these organizations rent out their halls for celebrations. By helping veterans and providing their halls to the community, these organizations help keep alive the memories of those who have died and served our country as well as bringing people together.
