Citizens young and old celebrate DeWitt County’s veterans each November with annual events and remembrances. Here are some opportunities for veteran appreciation.
Flag Placement
The American Legion Post #369 and Westhoff School will work together to place flags on veteran graves at Westhoff Cemetery on November 5.
Buddy Poppy Fundraiser
VFW Post 8136 and Auxiliary will be distributing Buddy Poppies at the Post Office, Friday, November 8th. Please come by and help our veterans by getting your Poppy. The monies we receive go to programs that help and support veterans. We appreciate your contributions.
Veteran’s Day Chicken BBQ
The American Legion Dinter Post #3 is hosting a Veteran’s Day Chicken BBQ on Saturday, Nov. 9. The proceeds will go to help area veterans in need and for Post home improvements. The BBQ will be held at the American Legion Hall, 310 S. Esplanade with chicken pickup times from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the DeWitt County Coop and Ander’s Auto Supply in Downtown Cuero. We are asking for $15 donation for each BBQ chicken.
CRH Celebrates Veterans
Cuero Regional Hospital will honor and celebrate veterans on Monday, November 11th at 8:30 a.m. in the Main Lobby, with FREE hot coffee and sweet donuts. Join us in honoring and thanking our Cuero Health veterans along with friends and family veterans in our community.
Yorktown ISD
Yorktown ISD will honor all who served in a special ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Yorktown High School Gym.
Meyersville ISD
The Meyersville School will honor veterans on November 11 with a program entitled, 'I am Proud to be an American'. This program will be held at 9:00 a.m. in the Meyersville Gym. Everyone is invited to attend as the Panthers celebrate our veterans and our great nation.
Westhoff ISD
WISD students present an annual program for veterans on Monday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. This year, rather than a speaker, the students are showing their gratitude and patriotism through projects and performances as well as a special surprise by junior high. A roast beef lunch will follow.
Veteran’s Day Ceremony
A Veteran’s Day Ceremony will be hosted by the DeWitt County Vietnam Veterans of America, Monday, November 11th, at 11:00 a.m. The Ceremony will take place indoors, at the VVA/ DeWitt County Veteran’s Center Building in Yorktown, 901 Hwy 72. This Ceremony is one of the largest in the area, with attendance increasing annually. The Ceremony includes Honors to those who sacrificed and served our Nation; a very dynamic Army Helicopter Pilot/ PHI Medical Flights Pilot as our Guest Speaker, Color Guard, Rifle Salute, and much more. Following the Ceremony, another exciting Auction for a Henry Golden Boy “Military Edition” Rifle will be held. All are welcome to attend, and Honor those “WHO GAVE ALL” to protect the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
Cuero Nursing & Rehabilitation
The VFW will present A Veteran’s Day program at Cuero Nursing & Rehabilitation, 1310 E. Broadway, on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
