This is Head Coach Ashtyn Henkes first year at the helm of the Kitty Kat squad. The team seems to be pointed in the direction for success. After missing a playoff berth last season, Yorktown is excited to be playoff bound. The team seized the best of the opportunity this year and did not merely advance out of district play but snagged a spot at the top with a co-district championship.

In preparation for the playoffs, the Kitty Kats played a warm up game against the Shiner Lady Comanches on Friday, Nov 1. Yorktown was narrowly defeated, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.

This is the first year for the University of Interscholastic League to have two playoff brackets per division. They ruled to split the four teams advancing to the playoffs by enrollment, having the larger divisions forming one bracket and the smaller a separate division. Yorktown will compete in 2A Division I.

Henkes comments about the team and season include, “The girls had a goal from the beginning of the season which was to win district. From day one until now the girls have continued to keep focused on their goals as a team and as players. I’m excited for next week. We play a competitive Flatonia team but the girls are willing and ready to accept that challenge.”

The Kitty Kats will play Flatonia in Bi-District on Tuesday, Nov 5 in Yoakum at 7:00p.m. The Lady Bulldogs finished third place in 2A District 27 with Ganado, Weimar, Schulenburg, Louise, and Shiner. They have a 6-4 district record and 24-15 overall record. Flatonia ended district with a three game losing streak. In the first round of district they lost to Schulenburg but in the second round they fell short to Shiner, Weimar and Schulenburg. The Kitty Kats have hopes of making it a four game losing streak for the Lady Dogs as they try and nab a playoff win.
