While results of the Nov. 5 election are considered unofficial until they’re canvassed by local officials, the results are in. Of the 11,428 registered voters in DeWitt County, 67.93% cast ballots in the election, according to the DeWitt County Elections Office.
Only four precincts in DeWitt County had a ballot directly impacting local citizens. Their votes along with Lavaca County’s determined that teachers in Yoakum ISD will not receive a pay increase in January as the Voter Approval Tax Rate Election failed.

All other positions had uncontested Republican candidates. Those included 24th Judicial District Attorney Brian Cromeens and Sheriff Carl Bowen, whose primary races were among the most hotly contested in the March primary.
Republican candidates for US House of Representative, District 27, and State Representative, District 30, won the races against their Democratic women challengers. Both women put reproductive healthcare as motivating issues to run.
Also, in the judicial races Republicans will replace incumbent Democrats and dominate the courts.
