Mueller-Schaffner American Legion Post 369 of Westhoff, Texas, partnered up with Westhoff School fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students to place flags on veteran grave sites. This patriotic activity took place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, with beautiful weather in attendance at Westhoff Cemetery. Sue Hilbrich welcomed students and staff then introduced the American Legion volunteers. Terri Boothe had a brief discussion which required student participation about Election Day and Westhoff history.
Students and volunteers dispersed into groups to various sections of the cemetery with placement of 109 flags. After completion of flags, there was more discussion about various wars, military branches, MIA meaning, different languages on headstones, and the significance of Mueller-Schaffner.
Also, Legion members distributed 11 flags at St Aloysius Catholic Cemetery, 12 flags at St Thomas Baptist Church and 1 flag at a private cemetery, all in the community of Westhoff. Volunteers included Sue Hilbrich, Kristye Kahlich, Ruth Killough, Melinda Weikel, Alissandra Burnett, Andrew Weikel and Terri Boothe.
