Yorktown Independent School District (ISD) is proud to announce a remarkable achievement in its recent Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser, where students raised over $1,900. This incredible effort will fund 20, 3D mammograms for women in the community who lack insurance coverage, ensuring access to this vital screening.

Throughout the month, students actively participated in various fundraising activities, including collecting spare change and purchasing breast cancer awareness merchandise to wear at school. Additionally, teachers supported the initiative by purchasing 'wear jeans' passes, creating a vibrant and united front in the fight against breast cancer.

On Friday, October 25th YISD hosted a breast cancer awareness walk for students and the community members to honor, support, and educate by walking the track. Yorktown Medical Clinic and Cuero Regional Hospital participated by providing education, cheering on the walkers, and passing out pink pom poms. Yorktown Medical Clinic and CRH also provided a pizza lunch for the fundraising winners at YISD.

Cuero Regional Hospital offered 3D Mammogram screenings for a special price of $99 in the month of October. Throughout the month, education has been distributed through our communities, and pink footballs were donated to all local cheerleaders to throw to the stands on Friday night football games to raise awareness.

“By coming together as a community, Yorktown students have not only demonstrated their dedication to a worthy cause but have also made a significant impact on the health and well-being of women in Yorktown,” said Tamara Kainer, Marketing Director at Cuero Regional Hospital. “The funds raised will directly support women who may otherwise not have access to life-saving screenings.”

Breast cancer screening is essential, with the American Cancer Society recommending that women begin yearly mammogram screenings at age 40. Early detection can significantly increase survival rates, making initiatives like this fundraiser critical for community health.

Yorktown ISD is thrilled to lead the charge in breast cancer awareness and invites the community to continue supporting local efforts that promote health and well-being. Together, we can make a difference! This program is headed by Maria Knebel, RN at Yorktown ISD.
