The Yorktown Kitty Kat 2024-25 basketball season is in full swing, as Yorktown has now played three games, picking up two wins.
The Kitty Kats opened the season on Saturday, November 9, when they traveled to Moulton to face the Kittens. Moulton was not a very pleasant host, as they defeated Yorktown, 63-29. Yorktown freshman Palyn Koopmann led the Kitty Kats with eight points while sophomore Gracie Stehling had six. Sophomores Rylie Krueger and Kendall Sievers pulled down six rebounds each, senior Sydnie Krueger had 4 steals.
On Wednesday, November 13, Yorktown traveled to Goliad and came away with a 4733 win over the Lady Tigers. Senior Laynie Boyd led the Kitty Kats with 14 points, while Koopmann had 11. Sievers added seven points. Stehling pulled down eight rebounds, while senior Madi Rowlands had seven. Senior Nina Villarreal had six assists, while Stehling blocked three shots and Koopmann dished out four assists.
On Saturday, November 16, the Kitty Kats made it two in a row with a 40-20 win over the Stockdale Lady Brahmas at home. Yorktown’s defense was solid in the first quarter as they jumped out to a 12-0 lead. It was more of the same in the second quarter, as the Kitty Kats extended their lead to 26-5 at halftime. In the second half, Stockdale outscored Yorktown, 1514, as the Kitty Kats won, 40-20. Koopmann had 13 points, while senior Destiny Longoria had nine, including seven in the first quarter. The Kitty Kat JV picked up its first win of the season, 179. Freshman Evelyn Merks led Yorktown with nine points.
Yorktown will host the Flatonia Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, November 19, before competing in the Kitty Kat Classic on Thursday - Saturday, November 21-23.
