Rep. Geanie W. Morrison visited the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum last Thursday to share proclamations commemorating both the museum and outgoing director Susan Weber.
Morrison is also stepping down from her District 30 seat after 25 years in office. She said that during the last round of redistricting, she worked to keep Cuero. “This area is what I consider the heart and soul of the district.”
She said witnessing what happened in Cuero over the last 25 years has been amazing, especially in regard to the Museum.
The state resolution congratulated the CTHM in its 24th year of operation as upholding the tradition of ranching in South Texas. It recognized the renovation of historic buildings, such as the English-German school, as well as the awards and education efforts to preserve the history of the cattle drives.
Morrison next called Susan Weber, the retiring director of 10 years, up to the podium and read a state proclamation recognizing her service to the CTHM. As the accolades were read, Weber wiped tears from her eyes.
After Morrison spoke, Robert Oliver, the CTHM board president, recalled the early years of the museum and some weak leadership. He recalled the discussion of whether Weber might be willing to take on the directorship and how fortunate the Museum was that she accepted.
Going forward two women are sharing the directorship of the CTHM: Julia Stafford as marketing director and Courtney Kubesch as business manager.
