Many of us will gather with family, friends, neighbors, or others this week to celebrate a very special day and time of year. Thanksgiving has a tremendous meaning and has been celebrated for years and years because of the blessings we have received from the Lord. He has graciously given to us in our abundance and delivered us from hard times in the past or present days of our lives.
It is a time of reflecting on our past, remembering where we have been and how far we have come in life. It is a time for renewed hope and energy as we look forward to another day and ask God to lead us in His Way and to continue to love us in a way only He can provide.
As I have grown older and more appreciative of what and who I have been blessed with, I often wonder how I can be blessed any more than what the Lord has given me already. I am not wealthy by any means in money or material possessions but I am extremely wealthy in family, friends, and health.
Our nation has taken a turn from appreciating what the Lord has blessed us with to complaining about what we don’t have instead of being grateful for what we do have. The old saying that, “the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence” is not true in many instances. Most people look on others with greed and envy. We have no idea what the day is like for these people. Their day may be full of pain, sorrow, and indecisions.
Our politicians need to legislate for all of the people and get away from their self-fulfillment. Many of our people who complain about instances in the past and want our memorial statues taken down don’t appreciate history and what this country has gone through to get to where we are today. Many of us have taken our eyes off of Jesus who was the same in the past as He is today. We are part of His master plan and should look for His divine guidance each and every day. No one can change the past but it seems, from our history books, that the population was more appreciative for their bounties then than we are now. Our people today have become self-serving and have taken their eyes off of who created this earth and gives us life every day.
On this Thanksgiving Day as we enjoy a good meal with family, let’s remember those who are less fortunate than we are and reach out to them. Let’s talk to the Lord through prayer thanking Him for His goodness. Let’s talk to Him about our world situations and ask for His divine guidance once again on what we should say and do for those around us. We should remember what the song tells us; “what the world needs now is love, sweet love, it’s the only thing there is just too little of…no not just for some but for everyone.”
We need to stand and be counted for the sake of Christ. Our churches need to be filled again and hear God-fearing preaching once again instead of being entertained. God has never changed but we have and the watered down sermons we receive from many so called evangelist has hurt our relationship to the one and only true God.
Thanksgiving is a tremendous day and we should all remember why we have a Thanksgiving. It was started to thank God for his blessings. Let’s hope we never forget this.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for your many blessings. I pray that our country will turn back to you and seek your guidance. Amen.
