Mary Katheryn Stauffer

Mary Katheryn Stauffer, 88, of Rockport peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. She was born April 30, 1936 in Shiner to Charles and Mary Stary Jiral. She married Kurt Werner Stauffer in San Antonio in 1980. She was a dedicated LVN and while her children were growing up, she worked with many local youth organizations. Mary began painting in 1978 and she enjoyed painting many types of art mediums. While in Switzerland from 1981-1995, she continued to expand her love of art by quilting, needle pointing and sculpting dolls. In 1995, she returned to live in the states settling in Rockport where she continued needle pointing and sewing but also began to take art classes from her neighbor Joyce Clarkson. Some of her artwork can be viewed at the Cuero Pecan House. She retired in Rockport and enjoyed her Lee Circle and Tuscany Village friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Annette Schumacher Rath (Erwin Jr.); grandchildren, Anthony Wayne Rath (Shelly) and James Allen Rath (Kassie); great-grandchildren, Ashton Rath, Makenzi Rath and Chandler Rath and her sister, Charlene Steahle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Allen Wayne Schumacher; sisters, Annie Brenek, Bernice Ebert and Theresa Hammond; and brothers, Joseph Jiral and Frank Jiral.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, 1 PM at Freund Funeral Home with Funeral Services beginning at 2 PM with Father Richard Bediako officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers include her great-grandchildren, Ashton Rath, Makenzi Rath and Chandler Rath.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Yoakum.
