The Holiday season is upon us and DeWitt County 4-H is so thankful for all of the support we receive from our community, volunteers, parents, and members. As we get further into the 4-H year, don’t forget that new 4-H enrollment and re-enrollment is occurring right now. All youth and adult volunteers must re-enroll annually. The enrollment fees are as follows: $30 for 4-H members, $10 for Clover Kids, and $10 for Adult Volunteers. You can enroll at https://v2.4honline. com/#/user/sign-in . As a reminder, 4-H age is 8 years old and in the 3 rd grade through 12 th grade. Clover Kid age is 5 years old and in kindergarten through 2 nd grade.
There are 43 different 4-H projects to choose from in the Texas 4-H program, which means showing an animal is not your only option! Our projects are based on and around Agriculture and Livestock, Family and Community Health, Leadership and Citizenship, Natural Resources, and STEM. We are always looking for adult volunteers to share their knowledge and expertise with our youth. If you have a passion for something and want to share it with the youth of DeWitt County, please contact Candace at the Extension Office to talk about being a registered volunteer for our 4-H program.
We want to thank everyone that has donated to our monthly community service projects this 4-H year. Community Service is a big part of 4-H. After all, one of the four H’s stands for Hands and in our 4-H Pledge we say, “I pledge my hands to larger service”. We just wrapped up our last community service project for the fall this past Sunday by collecting toys for Blue Santa at our 4-H Christmas Party. In January, we will be collecting fleece material so that our 4-H members can make fleece tie knot blankets to donate. If you have any fleece material you would like to donate, please bring it by the Extension Office before January 27th.
Rabbit Validation for Cuero Livestock Show will be on January 28 th from 5pm-7pm at the Friar Ag Center. Please make sure you bring your signed breeder verification form with you to validation. Now that most validations for Cuero Livestock Show are complete, members with livestock projects will receive their Cuero Livestock Show Entry Cards at their January 4-H Club Meeting. Please make sure you attend your January 4-H Club meeting. Entry cards for Cuero Livestock Show and Cuero Horse Show are due, signed and completed, to the Extension Office on or before January 31 st by 5pm. Cuero Homemaking and Project Show Entry Cards are due on or before February 14 th by 5pm to the Extension Office. Always remember, if you have questions over any of our 4-H projects, club meetings, or CLS validation dates, be sure to contact the DeWitt County Extension Office at 361-275-0816 or email the DeWitt County 4-H Agent, Candace Williamson, at candace.williamson@ ag.tamu.edu. The DeWitt County Extension Office wishes you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
