League seeks nominations for local women who shape communities

Each March, the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas celebrates Women's History Month by recognizing special women in our community. In 2023, the League recognized the eight women serving as mayors of our South Central Texas towns. In 2024, they invited area high school students to recognize women who had touched their lives with poems and essays. In response to these events, many have told the League how important it is to share and celebrate the inspiring stories of local women and their contributions to our communities. These stories - too often untold - remind women of today and future generations that their voices and stories are vital to our collective history.

The South Central Texas League of Women Voters, serving Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca Counties, invites you to join in this joyful work by nominating a woman you feel deserves special recognition at the League’s 2025 Women Making History celebration on March 9, 2025, at La Grange’s Historic Casino Hall.

Who might you nominate? Do you know a determined woman who has solved a significant problem despite obstacles or opposition? Or, a woman whose courage you admire because she backed an unpopular cause in which she deeply believed? Do you know a woman whose vision led her to noteworthy achievements or whose initiative helped her seize the opportunity to use her talents to create her own future? Who comes to mind when you think of a local hero - a woman whose heroic spirit was tested and who became a model for our community? Do you know someone whose steadfast spirit has contributed to her lifetime of achievement? If you say yes to any of these questions, these women deserve to have their stories shared and celebrated. Nominating them is the first step!
