Dear Editor, On Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, the Tri-City Empowerment Council sponsored a Christmas Celebration in honor of the Foster/Adopt Families TARE. This celebration was to recognize foster parents and adopt families for all of the selfless support that they give the children in their homes. It was also to spread hope and love to the foster children. The evening began with tours of the museum and continued with joy and festive live music played by the Wildcat Christmas Ensemble and a beautiful skit by Debbie Scott and Rogers Wardy that told the meaning of Christmas. Our night in Cuero ended with a ride through Cuero's Lighted Park with hot chocolate.
Tri-City Empowerment Council would like to thank Upbring-Foster in Texas for helping with the event planning. Thank you to the following contributors, Mr. Robert Oliver the president of the Chisolm Trail Heritage Museum, Cuero Walmart Managers Nathan and Connie, Beverly Kuecker of Diamond K Services, LLC, Pastor Coppedge of Freedom Life Church, Amherst of Cuero, St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church, My Father's House Church, DeWitt County Brotherhood, Sandra Osman of Cuero Main Street Project, Foster Parents of Victoria, and Conoco Philips. Dear Editor,
How many of my Mexican friends and family from Cuero remember attending Misa de Gallo (midnight mass) at Our Lady of Guadalupe (OLG)? It used to be standing room only. My parents would be there 30 minutes early to get a seat since my dad was handicapped. When I came home for Christmas, I’d always attend midnight mass at OLG with my parents.
I miss this tradition at OLG! Over the years, it has changed from every Christmas Eve to every other year, alternating with St. Michael’s (STM). The Catholic Community of Cuero then changed it to having it at STM only. It was understandable when there was only 1 priest but now there are three priests! So, who is the Misa de Gallo not held at OLG?
Beyond any nostalgia for the old days, having the Misa de Gallo at OLG will not only show support of the Mexican culture and traditions of the OLG parishioners, it will also be an opportunity for our community to get together at our church. I hope to once again attend Misa de Gallo at Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Sincerely, Rodger Macias (Editor’s Note: The name La Misa de Gallo translates to “Mass of the Rooster” because it’s believed that a rooster crowed on the night Jesus was born.)
