After proclaiming the City of Cuero a Tourism Friendly Community, City Council went into a lengthy executive session at its special meeting on December 19. Upon resuming an open meeting, council approved the conditional use permit, with conditions, for Norma’s House at 1105 N. Hunt Street.
The three conditions included: 1) no signage; 2) the hours of operation of Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and 3) follow maximum occupancy requirements of the Cuero Fire Department.
The vote brings to a close three months of limbo for Norma’s House. The child advocacy agency, which serves Gonzales, Lavaca and DeWitt counties, was waiting for approval of their request for a conditional use permit before starting to see DeWitt County children in the new office.
Several Hunt Street neighbors had concerns about the agency being allowed to open in a residential zone, which were aired at a public hearing on December 9. Many of their concerns were addressed by Norma’s House Executive Director Deane Parsley-Novosad as well as consulting attorney Steve Pena.
