Kitty Kats defeat Leopards to stay perfect in district

On December 17, the Yorktown Kitty Kat Varsity basketball team traveled to Kenedy to take on the Leopards in their third game of District 31-2A action. Yorktown scored the first seven points of the game and led, 7-4, at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Kitty Kats outscored the Leopards, 15-8, to take a ten point lead at halftime, 22-12. In the second half, the tempo of both teams picked up dramatically, as did the excitement of the game. In the third period, Yorktown extended its lead to 37-22. However, in the fourth period, the Leopards tried to make a game of it, but every time they would make a little run, the Kitty Kats would answer. Both teams scored 15 points in the quarter for the 52-37 final. Freshman Palyn Koopmann led Yorktown with 22 points and senior Nina Villarreal had 11 points, while both had seven rebounds. Sophomore Gracie Stehling had eight points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Senior Sydnie Krueger and sophomore Kendall Seivers both pulled down six rebounds.

The Wildcat Varsity basketball team opened up District 31-2A play, against the Kenedy Lions. The Wildcats fell to the Lions, 62-48. Freshman Aaron Guzman led the Wildcats with 12 points, while sophomore Brayden Knostman had six. Senior Sam Forbes and juniors Ryan Knostman and Brody Metting had six points apiece. Forbes pulled down nine rebounds while Guzman had six.

The Kitty Kats are now 12-5 on the season and 3-0 in District 31-2A and will take a small break before playing in the Louise Christmas Tournament, December 2526, 2024, where they will face: Louise, El Campo, Needville and Tidehaven.
