Yorktown transformed into Christmas wonderland

The Christmas Park Project is managed by the Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the Chamber adds to its collection of wooden cutouts, all created by artisan Mary Ann Kenne. This year’s Christmas layout was coordinated by Mary Ann, Katie Newman (Chamber Executive Director), Sylvia Hernandez (Chamber President), and concerned citizens Connie Hall and Rene Alvarez. The cutouts are sponsored by community members, often in memory of or in honor of loved ones.

This year’s Christmas layout was coordinated by Mary Ann, Katie Newman (Chamber Executive Director), Sylvia Hernandez (Chamber President), and concerned citizens Connie Hall and Rene Alvarez. This year, the Chamber installed a 25-foot lighted pole tree that gives the park a special magical glow at night.

The Frankie Seifert family donated a sleigh, which was re- painted and decorated with green wooden fir trees made by Connie and Rene. The committee hopes to add new items to the Christmas display each year. The Chamber appreciates past donations and will graciously accept future contributions to keep the Christmas Park project thriving.

Additionally, the Yorktown Historical Society hosts a Christmas Tree Forest each year in the museum, enhancing the beauty of the Christmas season. The museum provides the trees and invites businesses, churches, school classes, and organizations to decorate them.

Members of the Historical Society also decorate many of the trees. In conjunction with the Forest, the Historical Society conducts a food drive, collecting non-perishable food items for Yorktown Assistance Ministries (YAM), which helps feed local families in need. The Yorktown Museum showcases many wonderful items, and the community is fortunate to have access to this piece of history.

The museum offers free admission every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 PM or by appointment. There are several books and other items for sale in the lobby. The Historical Society welcomes anyone interested in becoming a member, as preserving history for future generations is a shared responsibility.
