The Lord gives everyone a spiritual gift. We are told in 1 Peter 4:10; “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” It doesn’t matter who we are, what we have done in our life, when we come to Christ and accept His abundant grace, He opens to us our spiritual gift or gifts that He has given us.

Once we become believers in Him, He will allow us knowledge of our gift or gifts to use in and through His church. Even though we may try evading these great gifts, we can’t. Many will not or do not recognize their gift and will sit idly by and never get the enjoyment of serving God with what He has equipped us with.

Many Christians today will ask what are spiritual gifts and how do we use them? All of us, that know Jesus personally, must realize that we are God’s messengers. He has empowered us with different gifts, along with service, and doing His work. Even though there are different gifts it is the same Spirit that gives them to us. These are not something that we have earned but through God’s gracious love have been given to us to use for Him through the church.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:6; “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us… let us use them in proportion to our faith.” We also find a list of spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12-14 and Ephesians 4. Serving, administration, giving, mercy, teaching, exhortation, prophecy, evangelism, and pastoring are only a few of the gifts that God gives to us. He also gives us abilities to use and perform the gifts He has given us.

There are so many ways that we can do the work of the Lord if we will listen to our heart and see what He has to say to us. God wants us to use our gifts and abilities serving in the community and through the church. We are living in a sinful world and we may be the only hope that someone will see or hear from us about Jesus. All of us need to realize that the church is not a building, but it is the people around us.

Yes, we need to take care of physical structures that God has so graciously allowed us to have but His concern is for the lost sinners of the world. For the ones of us that know Jesus personally, it should be our desire to use any and every spiritual gift that God has given to us. We are His messengers and witnesses and He has commanded us to tell the world about Him and His Saving Grace.

Have you realized what your gift is and are you ready to use it for the glory of the Risen Lord?

Prayer: Lord I praise you for each day you give me to serve you on this earth. I pray that I have recognized the spiritual gifts you have given me. I pray that I will use them for your glory. Amen.
