Training, hurricanes and budget preparation top July

Currently into month number two of my tenure as Mayor of Cuero, to say I have been busy would be an understatement. Councilmen Hensen, Arroyo and I attended The Texas Municipal League (TML) training for new Mayors and Councilmembers in San Antonio July 18 and 19.

Currently into month number two of my tenure as Mayor of Cuero, to say I have been busy would be an understatement. Councilmen Hensen, Arroyo and I attended The Texas Municipal League (TML) training for new Mayors and Councilmembers in San Antonio July 18 and 19.

I attended the Memorial service for Judge Gary Schroeder, Cuero’s former Municipal Court Judge, who recently passed away. The council appointed two seasoned Judges as the presiding and associate Municipal Court Judges (Shelly Garza Medina and Hallie Hall, respectively) during the July Council Meeting.

The city dodged a bullet with the path of Hurricane Beryl, and we received much needed rain without the damage and destruction experienced by our neighbors to the east. I am proud to state the County and the City were proactive and ready, should recovery have been necessary.

The visit to Norma’s House by the Cuero Police department and City staff went very well, and $1000, furniture and household goods were presented to the Norma’s House staff.

I also visited with Mayor Brenda Moses at the Goliad City Hall. It was nice putting a face to a name and offering mutual support between our two Cities. Mayor Moses and two newly elected Councilmembers attended the TML training in San Antonio as well.

Beginning August 1st, Council will participate in special meetings concerning the City’s projected budget for 2025. I encourage you to follow budget talks and actions, and Council encourages any feedback provided by all.

For those that were wondering, there were no computer interruptions during the computer glitches this past Friday.

I have been asked to invite everyone to the Welcome Back to School Bash on Saturday August 3, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the park pavilion. A big shout goes out to Ms. Viola Holman and her folks for putting the event together, so please stop by.

The month of August will be another busy and eventful month, please check all the websites currently reporting times and dates. One significant event occurring during the month of August is the free tire recycling event, so please check the city website for times and items which will be accepted. More to follow!
