Behind the scenes last week, city and county leaders mobilized to help a Los Angeles film crew shoot footage for an episode about “mysterious legends.”
Charlie Cook, an LAbased story producer, said that communities don’t always welcome film crews.
“We found the opposite in Cuero,” he said. “We were elated at how supportive the town was, and we were sad to leave.”
Cook said from the beginning Mayor Emil Garza was instrumental in coordinating resources and shepherded the local side of the production. ”He truly made shooting effortless,” he said.
Cook said when they found their initial plan was not going to work, people like County Commissioner Ryan Varela and Craig Oakes with the volunteer fire department found ways to accommodate the crew, “sometimes in the middle of the night, without hesitation,” he said.
He said Cuero should think about branding itself as film friendly.
Due to the legalities of working for a large corporation, Cook could not verify the subject of filming, the specific network or show that was in production except to say that it was for Season 6 of a current on-air show. He said the Cuero episode will probably air in 2026.
He did say they only do shows with a recent credible witness.
Local views that are likely to be featured include the Cuero Lake, the water tower and the DeWitt County Courthouse. “And of course the rolling hills,” Cook said.
