With a Winter Storm Warning of snow/sleet/freezing rain mix forecast for Monday night into Tuesday, residents prepared to shelter in place during the worst of this week’s weather. School districts, which were closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday, canceled Tuesday classes as well.
A Cold Weather Advisory is also in effect through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
On its Facebook page the Cuero Fire Department urged residents to “please acknowledge the warnings. Maintain your warmth and safety. Furthermore, bring your pets indoors.”
They also urged residents to be mindful of space heaters because they are most often involved in the peak months for heating fires - December, January, and February.
Space heaters should be at least 3 feet from anything that can burn and turned off when leaving the room or going to bed.
Anyone in need of shelter from the freeze can go to the Cuero Fire Station or public library. After 5 p.m. those in need of shelter can call the police dispatcher at 361-2755734 for details of a shelter location.
