Basketball season is in full swing, and the Lady Gobblers are making a statement that leaves the opponents searching for answers. With a series of remarkable performances, this past week highlighted dominant victories against Kennedy and Gonzales.
On Wednesday night, the Lady Gobblers faced off against San Antonio Kennedy, coming out on top with an impressive score of 57-24. Leading the charge was Senior Aubrey Bowles, who not only had an outstanding performance on the offensive side with 16 points, but also commanded the boards with 12 rebounds. Adding to the excitement of Wednesday’s win was the celebration of Senior Mauryana Dasilva, reaching a milestone in her basketball career— 500 career points. This achievement not only showcases her individual talent, but also reflects her hard work and dedication to the sport. Adding to the win were Senior Arissa Carbonara with 8, Junior Emeree Dasilva 7 points, Seniors Kaitlyn Comiskey and Kyara Denson 6 points, Sophomores Averie Orozco with 4, and Junior Sariyah Williams with 3.
Continuing their winning streak Friday night, the Lady Gobblers faced Gonzales, again leaving fans excited with a resounding 68-33 victory. This game highlighted their dominance in the district, as they remain undefeated with a record of 6-0. The first quarter set the tone for the district game with the Lady Gobblers taking a statement lead 24-4, and then a half time score of 43-15. Carbonara was a force to be reckoned with, putting up 23 points,5 blocks and 9 steals. The Lady Gobblers' defensive
strength, which has been pivotal in their success, was on fire against the Lady Apaches. M. Dasilva made her mark once again, scoring 17 points, adding 6 steals to her overall stats. Bowles maintained her consistent performance with 14 points, alongside Comiskey with 6, E. Dasilva with 5, and Senior Jaydie Cooper with 3.
Each game feels like the Lady Gobblers get stronger as a team, helping to fulfill their quest for a District Championship. This is a squad that plays for each other, and it's this dedication that translates into outstanding results in their match ups. With the win Friday night, the Seniors celebrated their 100th win as a Lady Gobbler Basketball Team.
Comiskey noted “I’m proud how we have come together more as a team and it has really shown on the court, that we have put in the extra work. I couldn’t have asked for a better team and season than the one I have right now. As we go into the last weeks, I just hope to soak in these last few moments and continue to work together as a team.”
As they sit at a record of 26-6 overall, the Lady Gobblers are not just breaking records, but are setting a standard in their district. Their ability to handle pressure, overcome the challenges, and continuously perform at a high level makes them the district team to keep an eye on.
