First year teacher at Nordheim ISD, Jacob Catron, was arrested on May 15 by DeWitt County Sheriff’s office on charges of an improper relationship with a student.
“We received a complaint of an improper relationship between a student and a teacher, investigated and found probable cause to believe it had occurred,” DeWitt County Sheriff Carl Bowen said. “Based on that investigation he was arrested.”
The sheriff said the way the law reads it is illegal for an educator in primary school (K-12) to have any type of sexual relationship with a student. Nordheim is a UIL 1A district with a K-12 school.
Catron, 23, who taught history, was charged with felony improper relationship between an educator and a student. He was booked into the De-Witt County Jail with a $35,000 bond. Catron posted the bond and was released.
Brent Dornburg, attorney for Catron, said his client has not yet been formally charged (by a grand jury) and in this country there is a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. He asked people to presume Nordheim Superintendent Kevin Wilson said an allegation was called in on May 8. Catron was placed on leave that same day, and the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate.
