Texas German Society

The Lavaca/DeWitt Chapter of the Texas German Society will hold its first business meeting of the year on Thursday, February 13.  Members will meet at J's Burger Restaurant on Grand in Yoakum. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.  Members are reminded to pay their dues, if they have not paid them yet.  Guests are always welcome.

Yorktown Livestock Show

The 86th Annual Yorktown Livestock Show will be held on Friday, Feb 14, at the Yorktown FFA Show Barn. The Ag Mech contest will be at 1 p.m. and Livestock Judging at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Feb. 15, the auction begins at 1 p.m.

 

Stew Fundraiser

The Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual stew fundraiser on Saturday, February 22 from 11am to 1pm.  Price is $12 per quart at the station.  Pre-sale only tickets are available at Meyersville Store, Cuero Lube and Tire, and Gohmert Air Conditioning. Yorktown Commercial Heifer Sale

The 1st Annual Yorktown Commercial Heifer Show will be held Saturday, Feb 22, at the OLD VFW. We will have 10 students showing their commercial heifers. We will have the cattle available for buyer viewing starting at 1 p.m. til 5 p.m. We will be having a pre-auction social starting at 4 p.m. The auction will start at 5 p.m. with an appreciation dinner for all buyers at 6 p.m. 

 

Craft Beer Society

The Cuero Craft Beer Society meets every third Sunday, from 3-6 p.m., at EVthing, 511 E. Broadway in Cuero. The next meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 23. 

 Yorktown Mardi Gras

The 1st Annual Yorktown Mardi Gra kicks off Saturday, March1, with a Mardi Gras ATV Parade, 10 a.m.; Chicken Run 1-4 p.m.,Yorktown City Park; Gumbo & Potato Salad Cookoff ($150 Entry by February 19), Vendor Booths, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Live Entertainment, Hunter Courville & Cajun Fever, 7 p.m.- midnight. Yorktown Elementary School Reunion

YES Class of 1995 plans are underway for our 30 year class reunion on Saturday, March 29 at Vietnam veteran center (old American Legion Hall) 901 Hwy 72 E beginning at 3 pm.   We are asking for donations to help cover the hall expense and briskets. Freemasons offer scholarships

Yorktown and Nordheim 2025 graduating seniors planning to attend technical school or college are invited to apply for a scholarship from Yorktown’s Cameron Masonic Lodge. Education is a key factor in the future success of not only our community but the country as a whole. The Freemasons are pleased to be able to offer further educational assistance through the scholarship program. The deadline for applying is noon April 8th. Students should contact their respective school counselors for more information.

Indianola Exhibit

The Cuero Heritage Museum proudly presents Honoring Our Mother: Indianola in Color, an immersive exhibit running from February 1 to June 1, 2025, at 124 E. Church Street, Cuero, Texas. Featuring colorized historic photographs, artifacts, and a compelling video, the exhibit brings the lost port city of Indianola back to life. The video includes Capt. J. M. Reuss' Civil War letter, the harrowing Sheppard story from the 1886 hurricane, the poem Where is My Home, and A. J. Coutret’s account of the 1875 storm. This exhibit offers a vivid journey through Indianola’s past, showcasing its historical significance and lasting impact on Texas.   Library/Crown Hospice Hosts Senior Social Hour

Crown Hospice is holding a Senior Social Hour at the Yorktown Public Library on the 1st Monday of every month. The social hour begins at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Bingo, prizes and snacks are all provided free of charge. The hosts look forward to you attending.

 

DeWitt County Shutterbugs

Do you love photography? Do you want to learn more, be inspired, challenged? Do you want to get together with other creative photographers? If so, please join us at a Shutterbugs meeting. Meetings are held on every third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cuero, 408 N. Gonzales Street. Please enter through the front door under the awning. Child Screening Services

Residents of Yorktown, are you aware of a child with problems walking, seeing, moving or thinking? Free screening services are available for children from birth through five years of age. Call 361-564-2252 ext. 3002 for an appointment. Screening will be held at Yorktown Elementary School.

Meals on Wheels volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to help deliver meals in the central DeWitt County area for Meals on Wheels South Texas. Meals are delivered once a week on Wednesdays from about 11 a.m. to noon.
