Elpidia “P.L.” Bazan Olguin

Elpidia “P.L.” Bazan Olguin, 81, of Cuero passed away Monday, January 27, 2025. She was born December 7, 1943 in Tivoli to the late Guadalupe and Andrea O. Bazan. Elpidia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a member of the Guadalupanas. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, making her famous tamales, and she had a love for sports watching them all on TV. Her true joy was spending time with her family. Elpidia was employed with Fischer Laundry for 40 years alongside her only sister, Lupe Cox.

Elpidia is preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Antonia Bazan; infant daughter, Sylvia; and grandson, Frank Amos Taylor.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Domingo Olguin; daughters, Diane Fernandez (Tone) of Baltimore, Maryland, Esther Ruiz (Michael) and Abby Taylor (Carlos), both of Cuero; sons, Albert Olguin (Felisha) of Victoria and Michael Olguin (Noemi) of Yorktown; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved chihuahua, Chuto.

Visitation for family and friends was held at Freund Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm with a rosary recited at 6:30 pm. Funeral mass was held Friday, January 31, 2025, 10 am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Richard Bediako officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.

Pallbearers include Albert Olguin, Michael Olguin, Carlos Taylor, Michael Ruiz, Nicholas Taylor, and Michael Jones.

Honorary pallbearers include Angel Taylor, Abel Taylor, Justin Ruiz, Troy Ruiz, Mario Olguin and Michael Olguin.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses at Hospice of South Texas for their compassionate care of our mother.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
