After the major elections of 2024, this year’s elections will be much tamer with only local offices – that are contested – on the ballot. All the local government entities that have open positions for the May General Election have the same deadline of Friday, Feb. 14.

If only one candidate files for an open position, the board or council can affirm that candidate without an election. All applications must be filed with the respective organizations where service will be offered.

The following government entities have terms expiring on their elected positions:

DeWitt Medical District

Two at-large board director positions expire in 2025. There are five total elected members, who serve three-year terms. Directors provide leadership and guidance for the DeWitt Medical District and Cuero Regional Hospital and its affiliates. Each member of the Board provides many hours of service each year without compensation.

To be qualified to serve as a director of the District, a person must reside in the District and be at least 21 years of age. A person may not serve as a director if the person is a District employee or was a District employee at any time during the two years preceding the date of the election.

The CRH Board of Directors meet at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month at Cuero Regional Hospital in the Education Classroom, located at 2550 N. Esplanade, Cuero. An application for a place on the DeWitt Medical District General Election Ballot is available in the Administration office of Cuero Regional Hospital and is due back by 5 p.m. Friday, February 14.

Yorktown City Council

The Yorktown City Council terms of Connie Hall and Crystal Hurta expire in 2025. At press time, Hurta was undecided about re-applying for her position, while Hall had indicated she would run again. These positions are two-year terms.

Also, a special election for the position vacated by Mary Kay Mattox will be included on the May ballot. Mike Rippamonti, who was appointed to the post, will stand for the one-year remaining term on the May ballot. (This position has a later deadline of March 3 for inclusion on the ballot.)

Requirements for the office of “City Alderman” include being a US citizen, a Texas resident for 12 months prior to the filing deadline and a territory resident for 6 months prior to the filing deadline with a minimum age of 18, as well as a registered voter.

The same requirements apply to the office of mayor which is also expiring this year. Mayor Bill Baker has indicated he will run again.

The incumbents for the General Election have until February 14, 5 p.m. to file for the ballot.

Yorktown ISD

The school board terms of Christopher Romans, Aaron Koopman and Jeff Sievers are expiring this year. It was unknown at press deadline whether they have re-applied for the threeyear terms.

Nordheim ISD

The school board terms of Lynett Metting and Richard Heard are expiring this year. Both have re-applied for the three-year terms.
