Lupe Joe Sertuche Jr. peacefully gained his angel wings and went to his heavenly home on Monday, February 10, 2025. He had just celebrated his 78th birthday with his family. Lupe was born February 1, 1947 in Cuero to the late Guadalupe Sr. and Josephine Bocanegra Sertuche. He married Mary Alice Ruiz in Cuero. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Tanker Driver in Germany during the Vietnam War. He worked as a Chrome Nickel Plater for Schumacher in Houston for over fifty years.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia “Cyndee” Sertuche of Houston; sons, Richard Hernandez of Victoria, Simon Hernandez of Victoria and Ruben Hernandez of Thomaston; sister, Paula Janie Turner of Victoria; grandchildren, Justin Roel Sertuche, Jacob Joel Sertuche and Josephine Dominique Sertuche.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Alice; sisters, Amelia Hernandez and Mary Alice Ochoa; brother, Jacinto Sertuche and nephew, Ernest Sertuche.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2025, 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Freund Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 PM. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, February 15, 2025, 10:00 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 705 W. Broadway St. in Cuero with Father Richard Bediako officiating. Interment will follow at San Isidro Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Rudy Liendo, Jacob Sertuche, Justin Sertuche, Robert Hernandez, Jesse Hernandez and Bradley Hernandez.
Honorary Pallbearers include Andrew Ochoa, Ruben Hernandez, Simon Hernandez and Adolfo Liendo.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle.
