In an ongoing effort to strengthen community resilience, foster interagency collaboration, and enhance disaster preparedness, elected officials, appointed leaders, and employees from De-Witt County joined agencies from across Texas in completing the Incident Command System (ICS) 300course.Thisadvanced training is designed to equip participants with the skills necessary to effectively manage complex incidents, coordinate multi-agency responses, and build lasting relationships that ensure a seamless and efficient response when disasters strike.

A key takeaway from the training is the understanding that successful disaster response begins long before an emergency occurs. The ability to react swiftly and efficiently during a crisis is directly linked to the strength of partnerships formed well in advance. By participating in the ICS 300 course, local officials and emergency personnel are not only learning critical response strategies but also developing the trust, communication, and coordination essential for a resilient community. Throughout the course, attendees engaged in interactive scenario-based exercises, strategic planning discussions, and real-world case studies, gaining hands-on experience in resource management, leadership under pressure, and effective multi-agency coordination. These exercises emphasized the importance of breaking down silos, enhancing situational awareness, and ensuring that each organization understands its role and responsibilities in an emergency situation.

The strength of a community’s disaster response is not measured solely by the resources available but by the relationships built amongthoseresponsiblefor managing crises. DeWitt County continues to prioritize a proactive, community- centered approach to emergency preparedness, ensuring that local agencies are aligned, informed, and ready to act together when theunexpectedhappens.
