Heart/ Stroke Awareness & CPR

In honor of National Heart Health Awareness Month, Zion Lutheran Church of Mission Valley will host a Stroke and Heart Attack Prevention Class with Hands-On CPR Training on Thursday, February 20, 7- 9 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall (12183 FM 236, Mission Valley). DeTar Healthcare System team members will lead the free community training on this critical, life-saving topic. The class is open to anyone aged 10 and older and will focus on teaching life-saving techniques, including hands-only CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) usage. Participants will learn how to recognize the signs of a stroke or heart attack and how to provide immediate assistance until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. A team from DeTar Healthcare System will lead the class, ensuring participants leave with practical knowledge that could save a life in an emergency situation. Please note that this training is not for CPR certification but is designed to empower individuals to act quickly in a crisis. Yorktown Commercial Heifer Sale The 1st Annual Yorktown Commercial Heifer Show will be held Saturday, Feb 22, at the OLD VFW. We will have 10 students showing their commercial heifers. We will have the cattle available for buyer viewing starting at 1 p.m. til 5 p.m. We will be having a pre-auction social starting at 4 p.m. The auction will start at 5 p.m. with an appreciation dinner for all buyers at 6 p.m.

Tree Give Away & Planting

Repsol, the City of Cuero: Cuero Tree Board, Keep Cuero Beautiful, and Texas A&M Forest Service will be planting 76 mature trees and hosting a FREE TREE GIVEAWAY on Sat. March 1, 2025, at 9 a.m.-Noon at the Friar Ag Center-Cuero Municipal Park, 501 Martin Luther King Drive, Cuero. This planting will help provide accessible treed greenspaces to the City of Cuero and enhance the community’s resilience by providing cooler temperatures, cleaner air, and safer outdoor spaces for recreation.

Stew Fundraiser

The Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual stew fundraiser on Saturday, March 1 from 11am to 1pm. Price is $12 per quart at the station. History Mural Reveal 

A True Masterpiece Unveiled in Cuero: The Pharmacy & Medical Museum of Texas invites the public to witness 'The Magnificent Reveal' of its stunning Museum Founder’s Mural, a masterpiece by acclaimed artist Rafael Acosta, Jr. Join us on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. at 114 E. Craft Beer Society

The Cuero Craft Beer Society meets every third Sunday, from 3-6 p.m., at EVthing, 511 E. Broadway in Cuero. The next meeting will be Sunday, Feb. 23.

Historical Marker Dedication

The public is invited to a new historical marker installation at the English German School, 205 N. Terrell on the grounds of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, on Tuesday, February 25, at 3 p.m. The new marker has additional information about the school’s significance to the community in the late 1800s before free public schools were established in Cuero.

Cuero Livestock Show 

The 76th Annual Cuero Livestock Show opens Saturday, Mar. 1, at the Friar Ag Center, culminating Friday, Mar. 7, with the auction. Look for the full schedule in this year’s special section.

Substitutes, Cafeteria, Bus Driver training

The Cuero ISD will hold its substitute training on Wednesday, March 5, at 8:30 a.m. in the Cuero ISD Administration Offi ce located at 960 East Broadway, Cuero. This training will provide individuals wishing to work in the classroom, cafeteria, or driving a bus with information necessary for success while substituting in the district. This also includes state mandated training for Safety and Security and Stop the Bleed Training. All substitutes must attend this training. New applicants need to bring a copy of their social security card, driver’s license, and transcript or diploma to the training as well. Brunch Buddies & Bingo 

Seniors 55 and older are invited to Brunch Buddies and Bingo on Thursday, March 6th from 10:30 a.m. – noon in the Education Room at Cuero Regional Hospital. Seniors will enjoy a free meal, “Joint Health” presentation, and a few games of bingo with prizes! RSVP’s are required and open to the first 50 seniors only. LIndenau Rifle Club Annual Chicken BBQ will be held Sunday, March 16, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. PRESALE TICKETS ONLY. Indianola Exhibit

The Cuero Heritage Museum proudly presents Honoring Our Mother: Indianola in Color, an immersive exhibit running through June 1, at 124 E. Church Street, Cuero. Featuring colorized historic photographs, artifacts, and a compelling video, the exhibit brings the lost port city of Indianola back to life. The video includes Capt. J. M. Reuss' Civil War letter, the harrowing Sheppard story from the 1886 hurricane, the poem Where is My Home, and A. J. Coutret’s account of the 1875 storm. This exhibit offers a vivid journey through Indianola’s past, showcasing its historical signifi cance and lasting impact on Texas. Family Storytime

Every Tuesday from 10 11 a.m. the Cuero Municipal Library has Family Storytime. This engaging program features crafts, snacks, stories, and fun activities tailored for children aged 0-5.

DeWitt County Shutterbugs

Do you love photography? Do you want to learn more, be inspired, challenged? Do you want to get together with other creative photographers? If so, please join us at a Shutterbugs meeting. Child Find Evaluations 

School districts must ensure that a Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) is provided for children who are identified as needing special education and related services. Child Find is a process to identify, locate, and evaluate individuals from birth to 21 years of age who may need special education and related services. Evaluations for Cuero, Meyersville, Nursery and Westhoff ISD’s are available through Child Find. Early childhood intervention programs serve children with developmental delays and their families. Eligibility is determined through a team assessment by program staff. Please call Jan Clink scales at 361-275-1900 extension 142, to schedule an appointment.
