Appraisal letters sent to 12,000

Close to 12,000 property owners in DeWitt County received their appraisal notices from DeWitt County Appraisal District recently.
Chief Appraiser Beverly Malone said about 12,000 property owners also received their mineral appraised values also.
As noted on the notices, those property owners that want to protest the appraisals have until June 24 to file a written protest with the district. Hearings on protests will be July 8-23.
Malone explained about one-third of the county is reappraised every year. The property that was reappraised for this tax year was primarily the rural area within the Cuero ISD boundaries.
“We try to divide the county up into thirds,” she said, “and visually look at a third of the county every year.”
“We are still looking at recent sales and we are still doing re-checks of property all over the county regardless of where it is,” she said. “And of course there has been a lot of new construction.”
