Thanks for Warriors Weekend turnout

May 17 was Warrior’s Weekend’s seventh year to host soldiers from military bases all over the United States. These brave men and women were wounded and are in the process of healing protecting our great country while serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. Each year, they travel to Port O’Connor for two days of fellowship, good food and awesome bay fishing.
This year, Warrior’s Weekend hosted approximately 700 soldiers. Many flew into Houston Intercontinental Airport and some traveled from Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. But the 225 soldiers who traveled from Fort Hood in Killeen had the best opportunity of all, for they got to experience the awesome hospitality Cuero had to offer.
To all the wonderful people of Cuero, thank you. Your support, love and gratitude were beyond any words we can express. Thanks to those who assisted us in spreading the news: the Cuero Chamber of Commerce, the Cuero Record and the various businesses who allowed us to post flyers.
A very special thank you to the city electric crew, fire department and Cliff Bothe for displaying the American flag at the entrance to the park. It was spectacular.
Also, not to be forgotten, thanks to Sheriff Jode Zavesky and Chief Jay Lewis, along with their deputies and officers, who escorted our caravan through DeWitt County and Cuero.
These soldiers never imagined so many would turn out to show their support.
We are already looking forward to doing it again next year on Friday, May 16, 2014.
God Bless you, our troops and the great town of Cuero.
