Vernell Joyce Gerbert Hartman, of Victoria, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2013.
She was born on Jan. 23, 1935 to Edmund and Alice Riemenschneider Gerbert in DeWitt County. She married Harold Floyd Hartman on April 8, 1950 in DeWitt County. Together they raised a faith-filled family. Vernell was a homemaker who supported her husband’s car business, Hartman’s Auto Sales, for over 20 years and then continued to support her oldest son as he took over the family business for the last 30 years. She was a proud member of Christ the Victor Lutheran Church for over 30 years. Family was very important to Vernell. She raised her daughters and sons to care deeply for their families. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, grandmother, and greatgrandmother, affectionately known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as “Nana.”
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Hartman and infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Hartman. She is survived by her brother, Alton Gerbert (Erica) of Opelousas, La. and sister, May Dell Jacob (Clifton) of Yorktown; her sons, Butch Hartman (Debra Dawn) of Victoria, Dale Hartman of Victoria; her daughters Marilyn Herring (Rickey) of Victoria, Connie Prukop (Gary) of Rockport and Debbie Webb (John) of Victoria; grandchildren, Tonia Prukop Fojtik (Chris), Tammy Prukop Luster ( Ronald), Heather Herring Bolton, Holly Herring, Julie Webb Gray (Marc), Jennifer Webb, Blaze Hartman, Chassity Hartman (fiancé, Cody) and Matthew Hartman; great-grandchildren, Cole Fojtik, Samantha, Sloane and Stella Luster, Ava and Jackson Bolton, Cameron and Jolie Lambert, Braden, Brandtley, Brennen and Marlie Gray.
Visitation was Friday, July 5, 2013 from 5-7 pm followed by a prayer service at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral and burial services was Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10 am at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1764 Meyersville Road, Meyersville, Texas 77974.
Pallbearers were Blaze Hartman, Cody Crisman, Matthew Hartman, Ronald Luster, Chris Fojtik, Marc Gray, Tommy Webb and Mark Brown. Honorary pallbearers are Vernell’s son-in-law, grandchildren, Nancy Peters, Martha Barnett and The Bunco Club ladies.
