Alfonso L. Gonzales


Alfonso L. Gonzales, 94, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013. 
He was born Nov. 24, 1918 in Inez to the late Manuel and Elvira Liendo Gonzales. He married his beloved wife Carmen Alcala on Feb. 2, 1946 in San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. He served in the United States Army as a Tech Sergeant for the 99th Chemical Mortar Battalion. He worked as a printer at the Cuero Record and Standard Printing from which he later retired.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, daughters, Carmen DeLeon (Frank Jr.) of Baton Rouge, La. and Yvonne Dowlearn of Cuero; son, Gerard Alfonso Gonzales (Debbie) of Cuero; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Richard Gonzales; daughter, Cynthia Gonzales; brothers, Mack Gonzales, Alfredo Gonzales, and David Gonzales; and sisters, Margaret Garcia and Josephine Aleman.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. with a rosary starting at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 at Freund Funeral Home. Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Father David Berger officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Frank DeLeon III, Edward DeLeon, Michael Joseph DeLeon, Michael Gerard Gonzales, Jared Matthew Gonzales, Jeremy Michael Gonzales, Richard Ryan Dowlearn and Drew Edward Dowlearn.
Honorary pallbearers include Joshua Blaschke, John Serda, Roy Rossett, Jasper Quinterro, Lano Oropeza, Nick Tortoso, Ron Walker and Chuck Blank.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, Cuero V.F.W. or Cuero American Legion.
