Rex Henry “Toot” Mathis

Rex Henry “Toot” Mathis, 68, of Cuero, passed away Sept. 27, 2013.
He was born on June 16, 1945 in DeWitt County to the late Joe Albert Mathis Sr. and Loverne Beasley Mathis. He was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church. He graduated from Daule High School. He also worked at Ful-O-Pep and Allied Feeds for over 30 years before he retired.
He leaves to cherish his memory wife Eula Blackwell Mathis; his three sons Wayne, Dedric and Chris, all of Cuero; his daughters Deborah Hamilton and Lynette Scott Brazzael, both of Cuero. He is also survived by his three brothers, Joe A. (Velma) Mathis Jr. of Victoria, Victor (Carol) Mathis of Cuero, and Larry Mathis of Austin; and his sister Shirley (John) Coleman of San Antonio. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rex was preceded in death by his brother, Elvin Mathis; sisters, Ester Polk and Dorothy Martha Coleman; and his parents.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at Little Zion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at L.E. Encampment Grounds, on 210 Nash St. in Cuero. The Rev. A.L. Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Cuero.
